Can you hear me now?

Ahh, General Convention. That triennial behemoth of Episco-nerds gathered together, mostly to argue (lol jkjkjkjk...but only kinda). The Young Adult Festival meets with Presiding Bishop Curry (Photo cred: Episcopal Young Adult Ministries ) Let me start by saying I had a great time, overall, despite some serious pain due to fibromyalgia and migraines. I got to catch up with some absolutely excellent folks that I love and adore.  I was able to meet a whole bunch of new people who have now been added to that list for the next time.  And I count myself as lucky that recovery time for this ended up being a 1:1 endeavor (i.e. a one week event, and it took 1 week home before I was functional again. If this seems ridiculous to you...welcome to life with Fibro, because that's actually a 50% improvement from my average). All in all, I enjoyed it enough to go back. Which is good, because there were enough things that frustrated me that signifies I'm probably going to HAVE to go b...

What's love got to do with it?

Usually, I'd like to think I'm a pretty upbeat sort of person, and I try to always put something of that nature into my blog posts.  I've been away for so long now, maybe I've forgotten a bit about how this was working for me.  Or maybe it's just the fact that I woke up panicking in a cold sweat at 5 am today. Because, in case you couldn't guess this, leaving behind everything is actually pretty scary.  Not always, not forever, but in those few moments of panic about this decision, I'd honestly say the descriptors actually come closer to "mind-numbing paralysis" than just fear.  For me, it was the realization that I am departing from the one and only constant I've ever had in my life.  I've lived many places, moved many times, different homes, different schools, different friends, but never have I lived more than an hour away from my family.  And I really have liked that. I'm preparing to go somewhere AMAZING! I'll be learning ne...

Returning to a place I've never been, Part 1

As my page views count inches toward the 1000 mark, I realize that, quite possibly, many of you reading might not know me well, or might not know me well recently, so I am giving you a little look into my past with this post.  Who knew that today your computer/phone/tablet screen would become a crystal ball (sorry no futures, those are beyond my control.  But they are discussed a bit later, so stick around)! I have grown up the oldest daughter of two colossal music nerds and talented musicians.  Even when I was very little, much of our interactions involved singing, playing, listening, and learning music.  Although I never was diligent enough to pick up piano skills; the love of music, and the awe of it's nearly limitless capabilities to express emotion and portray insight, has stuck with me (as you can probably guess from the number of posts tagged "music" on this blog).  This very much included songs and tunes in the Episcopal tradition, but by no means was ...

Understatement: Change is difficult (Part 1)

This update is so many days later than I originally wanted it.  I had hoped to get into a pattern of posting here each week after church before heading to the usual family lunch.  However, I have somehow ended up working on more pressing matters unexpectedly each time I've tried to sit down and write this.  I don't really like writing/working from my home because, mainly, there's no great place to do so.  I've got a room, and granted it's a fairly big room, but it's only a bedroom at the end of it all and somewhere along the way I gave up having a desk or any chairs in this place.  The only furniture to my name is a big wicker papisan chair with a huge round green cushion.  And it doesn't fit in my space.  So really I spend most of my time in my room on my bed.  Not always sleeping, but just online or watching TV or reading either laying down or upright against a pile of pillows.  Now I'm fully upright at the middle to write this, and that pu...
