Too tired for a title

Post-church naps are always good Today, I'll be able to count on one hand the number of things I get done. It's just that kinda thing. I've been hit with a flare-up of fatigue (and other symptoms, but fatigue is the worst at the moment) since my sister's wedding about a month ago. I never knew, back before this all began, what it meant to be fatigued. I'd been tired, I think everyone knows what it feels like to be so tired you just fall asleep where you sit. What I've learned is that there are 2 major differences between "tired" and "fatigued". One, if you're tired you can rest or sleep and then you feel not-so-tired. Two, I always could identify a reason I was tired, like not sleeping well, or spending all day running around doing stuff, or having to get up early that day.  Fatigue means I've slept over 12 hours last night, and I'm multiple cups of coffee into my day, and I'm still about to fall asleep. Those things I s...

Why the cat stays on the floor today

So, in the last few blogs, I've found myself reflecting most often on things of a cultural and political nature. While it has been mentioned to me that these are still interesting topics to certain folks I know read this blog, I find myself somewhat hesitant to post about them.  I am wary at the outset because, in large part, I find opinions to be very personal, and I am increasingly aware how the connected anonymity of the internet lends sharp brutality of rhetoric where I would much prefer compassion or silence, and I do not exclude myself from this indictment. I find myself frustrated and heartbroken at what I witness happening, and what is being done about it by myself, my friends, and others.  I know that, often, some excellent writing has transpired from the "greats" in times of righteous indignation, and that their prose has become inspirational and legendary and, some times, life altering for those who read what they capture in words. The truth is, however, I am...

How I think of Healing

Today, I woke up after a full night's rest, but my body doesn't seem to believe that. My hands and arms are week and shaky, and it takes nearly all the strength in them to move my 2 pound laptop.  Not all days are like this, though, and sometimes I wake up hours before my alarm with so much energy that my to-do list gets to die a swift death that day.  I just never know which kind of day it will be until it shows up.  So, today, with the recent release of Finding Dory back in the states (it's not in Brazil yet), I channeled my inner little blue fish to "just keep swimming".  I made it to work to teach.  I got here 30 minutes after the students arrive, but I got here (and I originally designed it so that I wouldn't normally take students until then anyways, in case I ran into trouble getting all the computer units up and going--which has already happened twice, so it was a good plan). This week, I'm working with the older groups to finish a lesson I had o...

I met Presiding Bishop Curry, but I'm not going to use the term "Jesus Movement"

Hello there, everyone! I'm sorry that the title is a little bit click-bait-y (where articles on social media use titles that nearly force you to open them to read more, even for really simple things). It is both true and also misleading, but I'm not actually going to directly continue to answer the obvious questions that you might be thinking right away. This is, in part, because the answer required a bit of set up to explain, and, primarily, because I really don't have too many ways to try and keep you interested except to try things like this and hold the resolve until the end. But I will tell you right now, I'll also be putting stuff at the end just so you can't immediately skip down to get an easy answer.  *insert evil laugh here* mwahahahaha Back in the middle of May I was in the midst of my health struggle, but had been asked to attend the Global Episcopal Mission Network (GEMN) conference held in Ponce, Puerto Rico.  I had accepted many weeks prior, before ...
